The Room Coroplasty

Southwest connecting hall. The large ogival gate was formerly called the 'rescue gate', because it was used to escape in case of attacks or besieges from the land. The pottery on display, dated between the mid-6th century and the end of the Classical period, is of exceptional quality due to the presence of some intact samples. They constitute material evidence of the Greek-Oriental influence that affected Sicily from the 7th century onwards, with the spread of Ionic models and techniques, revised in the light of different local traditions, as shown by the Kore of Biscari. The function of the pottery is linked to the cult sphere, widely diffused in necropolises and sacred areas where cults and rites in honour of gods were celebrated, among which the Biscari Kore stands out.
